Computers 2: Week of 5/16/2011 do now

I keep my computer organized in a multitude of different ways. All of the papers that i write for school i keep in folders named after the teacher to witch its for. Every photo or video i add to my computer is renamed to something i can remember. I use a hierarchal system when organizing my computer because files belong to certain folders when i add them to the computer. Tagging is when you give an entry a label so its easier to find and social bookmarking is a method for storing and managing bookmarks of web pages with individually chosen keywords;also, the sharing of this data. these are important because they help organize your computer.

Is there a 4th dimension ?

Like a beach chair sagging under a sunbather’s weight, the fabric of spacetime does indeed warp around the mass of the Earth — just as Albert Einstein predicted. And like a swimmer moving through the water, the rotation of the Earth affects the movement of spacetime itself. A gravity probe whose origins date to the era before human spaceflight has finally proved general relativity right, according to NASA.
Einstein’s theories of relativity hold that space and time are woven together into a four-dimensional fabric, and that a weighty body like a planet or a star depresses that fabric, like someone sitting on a chair or a trampoline. Gravitational attraction is really just the rotation of a massive body would also affect the fabric, so that a distant observer would perceive objects close to a gravitational body as being dragged around. Think of Earth sitting in a vat of liquid — as the planet rotates, the liquid starts to swirl, too, and so does everything near the Earth.
If this is true, the axis of a gyroscope would change when compared to the light from a faraway star. This is what GP-B was designed to do.
Orbiting 400 miles above the Earth in a polar orbit, GP-B contains four gyroscopes made of quartz-silicon spheres that are considered nearly perfect objects following the warped path. This developement explains many things and skews all previous calculations with regard to extra solar events. IT also opens up a new world of math to astronomers who need more exacting numbers to conduct experiments with regard to space and time. Lastly the new equations that come from the realization of this new truth may help solve the energy crisis on the Earth.

Graphene Material is Paper-Thin and stronger then steel

Researchers at the University of Technology Sydney have created a new material that is lighter, less dense, harder, and stronger than steel. But this material is not one of those breakthroughs that only sounds good on paper. It is paper, and it could be a game-changer for materials science if it can live up to researchers’ hopes.
This graphene paper is constructed of graphite reformed by chemical processes into monolayer hexagonal carbon lattices stacked as thin as a sheet of paper, and it is remarkably strong.Compared to steel, the prepared GP is six times lighter, five to six times lower density, two times harderperhaps best of all, graphene paper not outrageously difficult or expensive to manufacture, and as such it could have huge implications for the aviation and automotive industries, where manufacturers have already been turning to composites and carbon fiber materials to cut weight and thus increase fuel economies.

Superhydrophobic Fabric

Scientists at the not-suspiciously-named-at-all Northeast Normal University in China have devolved a new material that is not only waterproof but is resistant to UV rays as well. The scientists coated the cotton fabric base with zinc oxide nano rods as well as zinc oxide crystallites. This fabric offers a protection UPF 50 from UV rays and up, which is considered "ultimate UV protection"--it lets in less than two percent of UV rays. A UPF of 101.15 lets in less than a single percent, which would qualify for "excessive" protection if that level existed. The scientists are optimistic that this kind of fabric modification could become widespread.

Do Now 4/11/11

1) I think a pod cast is a feed that can be viewed online and on a mobile device such as an ipod.
2) People create pod casts so their information can be viewed on the go. So that they don't have to be home to listen to what they need to.
3) I currently have no experience in making a pod-cast
4) Tools that can help me make a pod cast are audacity and i-Tunes
5) I would like to make a podcast about Wood-Ridge High SAchool

Tech Article 4/6/11

This bright idea called the RE-35 digital cartage could allow anybody with a 35mm camera to take digital photos. Since the idea arose during April fools it is still being considered that this can be a joke. It has a pull-out “sensor” that captures the images and saves them to flash memory within the cartridge. When plugged in to a computer, the cartridge charges and transfers images with built-in software. The one problem is that it would have to be hooked up to the cameras shutter so it would know when to store an immage

spring break plans

This year for spring break i plan to go to my house in Herkimer County New York. When I get up to my house I am going to play paintball. Over the next two days I am going to go to the Great Sacandaga Lake to go tubing on  the lake. My friend recently purchased a new boat and he plans to make use of it during the break. After that I plan to go to Six Flags Great Escape and hang out there for the remainder of break.
